At Bel Air Assisted Living, we cater to many healthy seniors in this situation by tailoring à la carte Assisted Living, Respite Stay, or Alzheimer’s & Dementia Care services — prescribing as much, or as little, care as is necessary. We call it “Independent Living.”

Our philosophy is simple: Independent Living should be independent. Upon moving to Bel Air Assisted Living, new residents are encouraged to bring all of their memorable possessions and keepsakes. Previous residents have decorated their private suite with favorite family photos, rocking chairs, and World War II mementos. Once settled in, each resident is free to do as they wish: come and go from the facility, maintain relationships, or participate in off-campus activities and clubs. We do our best to ensure that nothing changes for Independent Living residents, except for knowing that our staff is available to help when needed. It is “aging in place” at its finest: growing old in the Harford County, Greater Baltimore, Maryland community where most of our residents have spent their whole lives.
Best of all, Independent Living residents enjoy our state-of-the-art, luxury care facility. No matter how sophisticated your loved one’s standards may be, we can exceed them. With our facility comes all of the perks: a personal chef who prepares three meals a day, individualized laundry, dry cleaning, manicures, and private bathrooms — just to name a few.
Additionally, daily social activities are available to Independent Living residents, and there is a vibrant social life on campus.
Transitioning to Independent Living can bring significant stress reduction — for senior citizens and families. Once enrolled, everyone will breathe a sign of relief. Our staff is monitoring your loved one now: they are eating, taking medications, socially active, and safe. Perhaps a story will best illustrate this. Recently, a new Independent Living resident was asked how her move-in transition was progressing.
She replied, “I love living with friends… [it feels like] I’m on vacation every day!” Her comment touched our staff, and reminded us why we love our jobs.
